It comes as no surprise that FIFA as been condemned worldwide as a hive of corruption and that Sepp Blatter, frankly, couldn't care less about that. While the recent allegations of corruption are unproven, the behaviour of the organisation has been bizarre enough for many to conclude that they're true. Certainly, there's been some exceptionally dodgy behaviour involved - organisations that suspend their president's only rival for re-election weeks before said election aren't often given the benefit of the doubt - and while we must stress that the corruption charges are at this point merely allegations, they certainly seem like they're true.

Naturally, the media and much of Twitter has been sent into an absolute frenzy over this, allowing the story to overshadow pretty much everything else at the end of the season. Sepp Blatter held a press conference today and was roundly lambasted by more or less everyone after assuming a hilariously 'screw you attitude', leaving #blatterout as a worldwide trending topic and more or less everyone calling for a major change in FIFA. I'm not going to get into the alternative options (but find it funny that anyone thinks a fan-power based solution is a fix), but it's pretty clear that everyone thinks FIFA needs to change for the good of football.

But it's not just FIFA who need to change. The level of outrage over an organisation that essentially does nothing except hand World Cups to Qatar and then stews in its own corruptness is staggering, the prioritising of the misdeeds of a band of irrelevant elderly males as a story over what has actually been a phenomenal weekend of football is significantly more depressing than FIFA being corrupt in the first place.

If football is in such a poor state, why is it so much fun? We had the Champions League final, a wonderful slate of MLS games, an absurd playoff in the Eredivisie, and Swansea beat Reading 4-2 in a nPower Championship playoff final that will live long in the memory. And instead of all that, we're talking about FIFA. Or at least, I'm talking about it, and you're reading about it. Right now.

I understand that FIFA matters. It goes beyond the English and US media throwing a fit over not getting the World Cups they wanted (although that's almost certainly part of it). FIFA is the top of the tree in terms of football, and there's an argument to be made by far more talented people than I that if FIFA is rotten, the sport is rotten. That's something I can subscribe to, to a certain degree. But how can FIFA possibly be more important than the actual games?

These clowns have power over us because they tell us they're important, and we believe them. How much does it matter that a tournament every four years is held in a different time zone than theoretically convenient? How would FIFA changing actually make a difference in, say, my footballing life? The answer: It probably wouldn't change a thing at all.

To those trying to make the world a better place: I commend you, but you might do well to remember that the world would be a better place if football itself mattered a little bit more than the people who run it.

AC Milan have announced via their club website that defender Alessandro Nesta will be out for approximately a month due to a muscle strain. Nesta was taken off injured in the second half of Milan's 3-2 UEFA Champions League defeat against Barcelona. Daniele Bonera was the man who replaced him on the evening, and he will likely start the Serie A match against Chievo Verona this weekend.

Milan have made a surge up the Serie A table to third place after adisastrousstart to their campaign, in no small part due to the central defense partnership of Nesta and Thiago Silva. It's arguably the best in Europe at the moment on form and consistency of performances, while Bonera has been poor when he's played. Philippe Mexes is still out, while Mario Yepes is well past his prime at this point. Bonera is going to have to step up his game in the next month if Milan are to keep pace with the other contenders for the Scudetto.

Guti seems closer to leaving Real Madrid after admitting he would love to try out life in another country, with Italy top of his wishlist.

Guti has had a troubled season with the Spanish giants and, before last weekend's game against Real Mallorca, had not played for over two months amid reports of a bust-up with coach Manuel Pellegrini.

Both coach and player have always insisted his absence was down to injury and Guti slammed journalists who suggested otherwise during a tense press conference earlier this week.

The 33-year-old has spent his entire career at Madrid after coming through their youth academy but admits that now could be time for a change.

"I would like to end my contract at Real Madrid but it is also true that I would love to be able to play for another team," Guti told Canal+.

"To be able to enjoy another culture, to be able to enjoy another life, other team-mates, another league."

Barclays Premier League outfits Tottenham and Bolton have been linked with the Spain international, whose contract is up at the end of the season.

Inter Milan are also interested and, when asked about the Italian giants, Guti did not hide his enthusiasm.

"I would go there with open arms," he added. "It is a great club.

"I have great friends there, Samuel Eto'o and Wesley Sneijder.

"I think it's a team that can aspire to everything. The truth is that it is one of my best options, if it could be real.

"It is true that I've had a very nice time at Real Madrid, that Madrid is a city where I wanted to live all my life, and now I want to leave Madrid.

"It's like a contradiction, but I want to be able to get out of Madrid, to be able to be in another country, in another city and to be able to enjoy other things."

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola admitted he will prioritise signing Udinese forward Alexis Sanchez over bringing Cesc Fabregas back to the Nou Camp.

But Guardiola revealed he had been told the money was available to complete both transfers and claimed Arsenal have agreed to negotiate the sale of Fabregas to the European champions.

"The priority is a striker, as we have more players in midfield than up front," Guardiola, speaking at a press conference, was quoted as saying on the Barcelona website.

"There are midfielders in the B team that can help us out. Everything costs money, but it's a striker we need.

"As (sporting director) Andoni (Zubizarreta) has told me, there is enough money to sign them (Sanchez and Fabregas) both, and we'll be trying to do that."

Zubizarreta certainly expects a deal for Chile winger Sanchez, who has also been linked with Chelsea, Manchester City and Inter Milan, to be concluded soon.

"All three parties have worked hard and we understand that the negotiations are coming to an end," said Zubizarreta, whose club are selling Bojan Krkic to Roma.

"Some endings are long-winded, but we hope that it is a happy one".

Barca were rebuffed by Arsenal in their pursuit of Fabregas 12 months ago but are hoping to persuade the Gunners to part with their influential skipper, who moved to London from Barcelona as a 16-year-old, this summer.

Guardiola said: "We were interested last year, but Arsenal did not put him on the market. This year they've agreed to negotiate and we will try to reach an agreement.

"You all know about Barca's interest in Cesc. There is money set aside for this player and until the last day we will try to bring in Cesc because he will make the squad better. I hope that something can be sorted. Until August 31 there is time, but at times things don't always work out."

Guardiola also spoke out against the possibility of Fabregas, who missed Arsenal's Asia tour to nurse a troublesome hamstring, forcing his exit from the Gunners, saying: "I think that Cesc has to do what Arsenal ask. For me I wouldn't like one of my players to say 'now I'm not training because I want to go'."

Zubizarreta added about the Primera Division champions' interest in Fabregas: "The position towards Arsenal is one of maximum respect because the club own the player. Also towards the player.

"From there, our position is to try and see eye to eye (on a deal), creating proposals that may be of interest, while always maintaining the maximum respect. We don't have a style of doing things by force."
